Cult of Luna piano covers live from Brutal Assault 2023

It's more than 10 years since I uploaded my first album here on bandcamp, which was a full piano cover of Somewhere Along the Highway by Swedish post-metal titans Cult of Luna. That is insane. In the meantime, as you probably noticed, I moved to completely different original material with synths and stuff, but I've been learning some new (and old) Cult of Luna songs on piano from time to time. I planned to record them in full sometime, but somehow, I still haven't. So when I got the opportunity to play two hour-long piano sets as an accompanying program at this year's Brutal Assault, I took my recorder with me and here you can hear the result.

The audio quality is, as always, not good. There are people talking, glasses clinking (I played in a wine bar) and occasionally also wind. My playing corresponds to the way it was recorded, so there are mistakes, some songs were shortened, some harmonies were forgotten or misplayed. You can probably tell which songs were played at the end of the sets, because my hands are just not used to smashing the piano for one hour straight (twice a day). Still, I tried to capture the raw, inimitable energy and drive of one of my all-time favorite bands, so I hope you'll get some of that fanboyish enjoyment and catharsis I get whenever I play these awesome tracks. With this album, you can embark on a journey from 2004's Salvation to last year's The Long Road North and feel all the grand riffs, epic climaxes, beautiful melodies and also all the little compositional nuances that made us all to fall in love with the band.
